Frequently Asked Questions

I want to get a tattoo, but unsure where to start

Due diligence is required , for your piece of mind . To find the artist that appeals to you with their style of work, ensure they work to correct contamination and sterilization controls ,If you are uncertain please ask.

Do your research. Have some idea of what you would like, and bring in a few pictures, cuttings, sketches etc… You need a starting point. We also have a large selection of designs to choose from.

Our Artist’s are happy to discuss your piece with you, offer advice and brainstorm with you.

When making an appointment, we prefer you come in to the Studio with your design. This way, the staff know how long to make your appointment, and alter the design if required. A deposit needs to be paid when making your appointment.

How small can I have my design?

Small is not good. Just think of images of old tattoo’s that you may have seen, if not, Google image is your friend. This can give you a guide to ageing tattoo’s . When they were first done they would’ve looked quite fresh & sharp. Tattoos and your skin will age. Keep this in mind when deciding on your design. The larger your design is then the greater the life of your tattoo will be. You still want it to look great in 15+ years. Keep longevity in mind.

“Will a tattoo hurt?”

Simply, yes! Depending on the individual & placement of your tattoo this will vary. Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others.

“How long will my tattoo take?”

Again, this depends on size, placement & detail. This can be approximated once design & size has been decided on.

“How much will my tattoo cost?”

Factors governing cost are size, detail & placement. We cannot give you a price over the phone. Once we have your design to size, then we can give you an estimate of what your tattoo will cost. Large continuous work is charged per hour.

“How to do I prepare for my tattoo”

Be relaxed, calm, hydrated & nourished. We will not tattoo anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Do not come in with sunburn. We will shave the area, please do not pre-shave. If continuing with a large piece, remember the area needs to be healed before work can be continued in that immediate area.

“What sterilizing measures are used by the Studio?”

Sterilization /contamination control

All sterilization is carried out on site with autoclave sterilizer where required and or disposable equipment and physical barriers. Single use application is adhered to.

Ink Up Tattoo Studio adheres to the Skin Penetration Standards, and we have an annual inspection from the Health Department for equipment & procedures.

“How do I look after my new Tattoo?”

Your tattoo is applied with the highest standard of sterilization of equipment & hygiene practices. Once your session is completed, your tattoo will be covered. You will need to remove this after an hour and general wash with warm soapy water, and pat dry.

Apply Bepanthen cream sparingly (enough to keep moist) 3 times a day for around 7 days. It is imperative that you wash your hands before each application, and when touching your new tattoo.

The tattoo will become itchy between 3-5days, this is normal. There will be shedding of tissue, which will contain pigment, this is also a normal healing process. Do not scratch. The initial healing process will usually take 7-10days. Dry skin & shiny appearance will disappear after 3-4wks.
